YMCA Gala Event Branding System
Designed the visual tone for the YMCA’s annual fundraising gala using red and black as the design direction from the client. Knowing this palette can often feel overused, I accepted the challenge and sought to reinterpret it with sophistication, originality, and a modern edge.
The invitation served as the cornerstone for all gala marketing and event décor, anchoring the full event branding system. I created a striking visual: a gold butterfly set against a rich velvet-black background, paired with a custom animal print pattern rendered in deep reds and black. The interplay of metallic gold ink and spot Rubine Red brought depth and energy to the red-and-black palette—avoiding clichés and creating something uniquely memorable. The invitation featured an elegant and unexpected die cut and fold, with typography chosen for its timeless sophistication and contemporary style. Soft-touch varnish on the black background added a luxurious tactile experience.
This design system was carried through all touch points—from marketing collateral to event décor—creating a cohesive and elevated experience. At the event the imagined animal print element translated beautifully to a lighting effect that washed the event space, while the butterfly and colors added to table top and photo opportunities to share on social media.
The event drew a full house, exceeding fundraising goals.
Invitation shown is printed offset on satin cover stock using 6/6 color (process + spot Rubine Red + metallic gold) with a soft-touch varnish finish.
